Breakfast with Steinway & Sons and LANSERRING

Exhibition

Renowned design houses LANSERRING and Steinway & Sons, both founded in a rich heritage of master workmanship, collaborated to bring Cadence, a LANSERRING designed kitchen space to life in this year’s London Craft Week. Cadence is a stylish and exquisitely designed space in a classic Victorian terraced house at Steinway Hall.

Cadence, With the Spirio in the Background

The Steinway 'Spirio,' the world's greatest high-resolution player piano, is located in the southeast corner of Cadence. The Steinway 'Spirio' plays itself in an exact recreation of a grand master performance, providing an unadulterated listening experience of live piano music, thanks to cutting-edge actuator technology.

Artwork, sculptures, and musical relics adorn the shelves. Metal and glass doors in classic LANSERRING design are fitted in the bays close to the seating area, and the doors open on piano hinges.

The music on the piano develops from light, relaxing daylight music to deeper, more atmospheric nighttime music. LANSERRING design adapts to the changing time as well, adjusting the light accordingly without the people in the hall noticing. Whereas sunlight floods down the lightwells throughout the day, the evening lighting design uses lights in the bottom of the bays between the fins to create a low-lit elegance.

A curved wall surrounds the Steinway piano, reflecting its rich tonal sound outwards into the space. Above the table hangs a handmade sound-dispersing chandelier constructed of steam bent veneer. Its abstract curved leaf shape is influenced by high-end music hall architecture. There are no speakers; instead, each zone's acoustic experience was carefully planned and enhanced by LANSERRING design and craftsmanship.

At the magnificent studios, we got to take a tour and marvel at the masterpieces. One of the pianos there being renewed had a great unique history. It was from Abbey Road Studios and was the one played by The Beatles’ John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The beautiful mahogany and maple handcrafted Steinway concert piano had keys made of ivory.

We also had the chance to play and test the Spirio at the studio in Steinway Hall.

The entire experience was magical to say the least, thanks to the master craftmanship of the two revered design companies.
