Remarkable steak, accessible to all, passionate people and love, is the goal of this steak restaurant. With the mission to make great steak accessible to anyone, Flat Iron Steak restaurant was born. It took Charlie, the founder, nine months to do beef research and teach himself how to butcher. They are known for their famous steak knife called cleaver.
I went to this restaurant when they had this experience on sale on their website for £15 each. It's well situated near Shoreditch's incredible street art.
About the restaurant, the cleaver is cool, but the downside is they don't cut the steak well. The cleaver matches the silverware aesthetics, but they are not practical as they don't have ridges to tear the meat. Overall, it was fun to use, but I won't recommend buying it for its full price.
For the meal, I ordered the classic flat iron steak and cream spinach. There's free popcorn at the table while waiting for the order. The cream spinach was okay; I had had better in other restaurants. For the classic flat iron steak, it was okay too. The actual steak, though, is bland, but they did a great job of cooking it. They cooked it to medium-rare, which is what I asked for. They don't offer filet, but they have different cuts for the steak. The meal was not the best, but it was decent.
There's a miniature cleaver given at the end of the meal. Where you exchange it at the bar with delicious soft-serve ice cream. There are other flavours to choose from too.
The restaurant has a fireplace in the corner which adds to the fun atmosphere. The service was good; they were friendly. The menu is limited, and they don't have a dessert. That's why they give you the mini cleaver in exchange for soft-serve ice cream.
Furthermore, their branch at 1-45 The Cut, SE1 8LF, will offer free Wagyu from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27th, until the steaks run out. The giveaway is only open to walk-ins on a first-come, first-served basis.
For the overall experience, it's great if you are craving a steak. Though they did a great job making steak accessible to people, I won't recommend it for special occasions.
