Frozen, the all-time highest-grossing animated film that never fails to give us chills, is currently showing live on London's West End. The Theatre Royal Drury Lane reopens its doors for the first time, bringing Elsa and Anna's story to life in this heartwarming theatrical performance.
The musical Frozen is a live adaptation of the beloved animated picture. Elsa and Anna, two sisters in the fantastical realm of Arendelle, are the protagonists of Frozen. Elsa can turn whatever she touches into ice and freeze it, which she has managed to conceal from her family. Elsa is terrified of her magical abilities now that she has been proclaimed queen. Elsa flees the realm, fearful of her talents, prompting Anna to set out to locate her in her newly constructed palace. Anna encounters Kristoff and his reindeer Sven and Olaf, a charming snowman, along the route. And they are about to go on an incredible trip filled with wonder at every step.
Frozen is directed by Tony® and Olivier Award winner Michael Grandage, with a book by Academy® and BAFTA Award winner Jennifer Lee, and produced by an award-winning creative team. The musical includes music from the original film, including "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?", "Let it Go," and "The First Time in Forever." However, there are new songs made by Grammy® and Academy Award winners Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez just for Frozen on stage, such as "Hygge" and "Colder By the Minute."
Furthermore, Samantha Barks as Elsa and Stephanie McKeon as Anna lead the Frozen West End cast.
The musical was delightfully surprising. I was amazed that it wasn't just a family gathering, but many people were present with friends and partners. It was an astounding musical; the performers were superb, and the singing was spectacular. Some unexpected surprises, such as wardrobe changes towards the finale, made me gasp. I would strongly advise folks to pay to obtain a good seat for this one because all of the costumes and everything else you want to see up close will be worth it.
Furthermore, the venue, Theatre Royal Drury Lane, was renovated and reopened last year. It was a fascinating venue since it had modern, magnificent artworks, which were really fascinating. They go perfectly with the rest of the theatre's atmosphere. They were both gorgeous and timeless while yet being contemporary. They performed an excellent job with the redecorating.
The only thing about the redecorating that was a bit problematic was that there were new attendees who hadn't seen the steps all around. So the theatre workers had signs like 'mind the steps,' and I actually witnessed someone trip while I was there. They should have used different marble colors on the steps. But that said, the entire location is generally gorgeous, and I highly recommend seeing any show there, especially the Frozen Musical.
