Bentleys hosted Mews London and its chief artisan Matthew Payne for London Craft Week. Mews London unveiled its inaugural collection during the show, a line of high-end leather dog accessories handcrafted in Devon from locally sourced Oak Bark tanned leathers. The collection is only available for purchase at Bentleys.
J & FJ Baker & Co Ltd, the last stronghold of Oak Bark tanning in the British Isles, was chosen for their leather. Due to the chemical-free tanning process, this traditional technique, which has remained the same for hundreds of years, offers a deep patina and unrivaled robustness. Matthew, a master harness maker from Bentley, has devised a product that will last a lifetime. Matthew showed off his skills in an open workshop where visitors could discuss and place unique orders.
Tim Bent and Giles Greenwood, two lifelong school friends who believe in British leather workmanship, created Mews London. Tim's business, Bentleys, is known for its antique leather goods, and Giles has worked in the luxury goods market for much of his career, most recently at James Purdey & Sons. Committed dog owners, both have family Dachshunds: Beano, Dino and Sauro.
Moreover, every item in the Bentleys has been hand-picked by the business's proprietor, Tim Bent, a Cambridge-born collector. His taste blends classic British country life with the subtlety of continental luxury.
You can find the shop tucked away in Chelsea’s Pimlico Road design district. Customers frequently spend hours speaking and browsing the exhibits because of the intimate setting.
Moreover, they are enthusiastic and vastly knowledgeable about the products they sell, and nothing makes them happier than putting an item in the hands of a customer. Should someone be looking for a specific item to add to their collection, whether it's a little individual piece or something to complete an interior, they happily accept such requests.
