To commemorate the London Craft Week, specialist gilder Sue Lee joined the director of Heritage Of London Trust, Dr. Nicola Stacey, and designer Kit Kemp MBE as the speaker for the Gilding talk under the series of Meet the Makers Behind London’s Heritage.
For the last six years, Dr. Nicola Stacey has served as the director of HOLT, overseeing several magnificent restoration projects around London. Kit Kemp MBE is a multi-award-winning designer, co-owner of Firmdale Hotels, and a HOLT Trustee.
Heritage Of London Trust finds sites, commissions surveys, provides funding, and oversees the restoration of each property from start to finish. They concentrate on endangered cultural treasures, and also invite local governments to join them and collaborate with expert conservators to bring each building back to life.
Moreover, Sue Lee founded her decorative arts firm 20 years ago and has collaborated with HOLT on gilding projects for the past 20 years, including the Charterhouse in Smithfield and the Old Vic. She specialises in stone and woodwork, as well as exquisite crafts like water gilding. Sue exhibits a variety of gilding techniques, covering both traditional and contemporary processes and materials.
Overall, the talk was outstanding. The presentations were lively, hands-on and thoroughly engaging to the very end.
