Rock & Sole Plaice - London's oldest fish and chip restaurant. Rock & Sole Plaice, which opened in 1871, is a local and tourist favourite.
Their sustainably-sourced British fish has been dubbed "the greatest in London" and is still cooked according to a 145-year-old recipe. I learnt that the basement chamber of the historic building in which the restaurant is located functioned as a meeting place for community volunteers to decide where goods would be given to displaced people around London during the Blitz, as World War II raged on.
The restaurant offers two floors of comfy sitting inside and an Al Fresco dining area in the heart of Covent Garden, great for those lovely summer nights.
It was a great restaurant with great cooks that worked together for a long time. They are lovely and took the time to demonstrate to me the different types of fish and how to prepare them.
They also offered me delicious large fish and chips for a reasonable price. They utilize a unique batter that appears creamy and is whisked to perfection.
Overall, excellent cuisine, excellent service, and affordable prices for a central London location.
It is a lovely restaurant with seats outside, an amazing menu, and fresh seafood. The service is prompt and kind—one of the greatest in my experience. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone seeking a really pleasant and traditional fish and chips restaurant in the West End.
