A local Bloomsbury Pub, The Marquis Cornwallis, one of the area's most well-known bars, is ideally positioned in Bloomsbury's heart, just a short walk from Russell Square tube station. It is a bustling British pub delivering the warmest of welcomes, combining trendiness and the wholesomeness.
The Marquis Cornwallis is the ideal venue for a laid-back yet uniquely memorable drinking and dining experience, combining the finest of British pub hospitality with originality, character, and quirky charm.
Whether you're searching for a relaxing lunch or a post-work get-together, The Marquis Cornwallis caters to all situations with delicious and flavorful food, an adventurous beverage selection, and a genuine, inviting ambience. This vibrant pub is the ideal setting for a quiet pint or a business lunch, with a clearly inviting ambience, vintage décor, and contemporary finishing touches.
This unique location provides typical British pub food alongside craft ales, excellent wines, and artisan spirits, and caters for anything from family meals and long-overdue catch-ups to post-work cocktails and mid-week indulgences. The on-street patio area is great for people-watching on sunny days.
As for the food, I had Pan-fried King Prawns & Chorizo as a starter, which came with toasted sourdough bread and was prepared in handmade garlic butter.
I chose Croxton Manor Mac & Cheese in a beef dripping pangrattato as a side dish.
Finally, for my main course, I chose the Cheeseburger, which includes grilled beef patties prepared from quality steak cuts, smoked Cheddar cheese, toasted brioche-style bread, seasoned fries, and house burger sauce.
Overall, I thought the starter and side dish portions were rather little and not really worth the price. But it was delicious, and if each of them were twice as big, they'd be good value for money. The cheeseburger, on the other hand, was decent but nothing exceptional.
The pub itself was a pleasant spot to get a bite to eat, and they seemed to offer a lot of special day vouchers and discounts. If you can acquire a voucher, then it's worth visiting there for a quick bite in the area, in my opinion. But don’t go super hungry.
